The 29th Annual VNEA Nationals Championships in Las Vegas were held May 24th through May 30th. In years past, Camden has sent many players to Vegas and they have done well in the Championships, and this year it was the women that showed up the men.
Laura Hargens and Dawn Spencer are without a doubt the top female shooters in Cedar Rapids, and so often when there is a mixed scotch doubles pool tournament many of the top male shooters scramble to ask Laura or Dawn to be their partner. The VNEA Nationals Championships is always fill with some of the best players from around the country, which is a a testament to Laura and Dawn's skill as pool players.
It had been several years since Laura had shot in VNEA Championships in Vegas. To come home with a 1st place championship in the Womens 8 Ball Singles, and 9th-12th finish in the Womens 9 ball singles, on top of her 2nd place finish in the Womens Masters 8 ball singles at VNEA State Championship back in March, was an extrordinary accomplishment!
Dawn is also not a newcomer to VNEA Championships. She had done well in years past, and this year was no exception. Dawn came home with a 2nd place finish in the Womens Senior's 9 Ball and a 5th-6th place finish in the Womens Senior's Singles 8 ball. Every year that Dawn goes to Vegas to compete in the VNEA Championships, I can depend on her doing well and come home finishing towards the top in each event she plays.
I want to congatulate both Laura and Dawn on a great performace in Vegas. Both of you, are always gracious winners, have always shown respect to your oponents and have been great role models for the game of pool. It is and always has been an honor to have you both play in the Camden Pool Leagues, and we at Camden would like to pay for both of your singles events next year in Vegas if you choose to go.
